Beware the Ides of March.
- William Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar

"Come and See"
I was blasting a little Bowie in the office when I was struck by a strange and horrible truth:

Some day someone will write a comic book with a character called the Caricature, and it will signal The End Times for the comic book industry.

It's right there in "The Bewlay Brothers":

Now my Brother lays upon the Rocks
He could be dead, He could be not
He could be You
He's Chameleon, Comedian, Corinthian and Caricature

The Chameleon's the first supervillain Spider-Man fought in Amazing Spider-Man #1

The death of the Comedian was the inciting incident of Alan Moore's immortal Watchmen.

The Corinthian was the deranged hatchet-man of Dream Incarnate in the Sandman series.

Make no mistake about it, my friends! They are Pestilence, War, and Famine made form! And one day we shall behold a Caricature! And Hell shall ride with him!!!

Or fuck, maybe he's already out there now, walking loose amidst those four-color pages with hate in his heart and the means to tear down all we hold dear! Maybe it's all over, and we just ain't noticed it yet, man! Maybe the Four Horseman have assembled, and the JLA's been too fucking busy thumbing through polaroids on a first-name basis to notice! Maybe the Avengers were too fractured and focused on forced banter to bother! Maybe it's all going to come down to this new, wild and crazy Fantastic Four line-up to save us! And if it does, I'm scared! 'CAUSE I DON'T KNOW THIS T'CHALLA! HE'S NOT THE BLACK PANTHER I USED TO BELIEVE IN!!!

Wait a minute... Wasn't one of Dan Clowes' Eightball stories called "Caricature?"

Oh shit.
