once upon a time is how it always goes
but i'll make it brief
what was started out with such excitement
now i'd gladly end with relief
in what now has become a familiar motif:
that nothing is good enough
for people like you
who have to have someone take the fall
and something to sabotage --
determined to lose it all
critics at their worst could never criticize
the way that you do
no, there's no one else, i find,
to undermine or dash a hope
quite like you
and you do it so casually, too
'cause nothing is good enough
for people like you
who have to have someone take the fall
and something to sabotage --
determined to lose it all
ladies and gentlemen--
here's exhibit a:
didn't I try again?
and did the effort pay?
wouldn't a smarter man
simply walk away?
it doesn't really help that you can never say
what you're looking for
but you'll know it when you hear it,
know it when you see it walk through the door
so you say --
so you've said many times before
but nothing is good enough
for people like you
who have to have someone take the fall
and something to sabotage--
determined to lose it all
- Aimee Mann, "Nothing is Good Enough"
"Keep Making Feedback Noise. I'm Gonna Go Find Some Vicodin"
Ever.
"In Case You Can't Tell, We're in a Bit of a Mood"
Aaugh!
"Nothing is Good Enough"
I bought the Magnolia soundtrack the first time I was a senior. Aimee Mann's "Nothing is Good Enough" is track 7, but it's instrumental. I knew that she had a song with the same title that had lyrics, but I just assumed it was really different or something. My Crazed Roommate played it today, however, and this is, in fact, not the case.
I've been listening to this song off and on for the last four years, but it never really sad anything to me until today. I'd almost take it as a sign, if, you know, there was actually order to the universe.
"You Not Sick... You Just... Farsighted"
I saw The Terminal today, and it really made me wish Dawson's Creek was still on the air, because I'd really love to hear the Leerian take on Spielberg's latest. Dawson was one of those geek character's I've always tried to pattern myself after -- I didn't learn he didn't get the girl in the end until it was far too late. Of course, if The Creek was still on the air, it'd be completely and utterly unwatchable at this point, because the last season was just painful.
I'm a loan. I'm a lone. I'm alone.
